Overview
Dr Gultutan joined The City Law School in September 2022. He is the module leader for and teaches on the GDL Foundations of Law module (comprising of English Legal System, Legal Ethics and Legal Research) and the International Construction and Arbitration module. Dogan also teaches / has taught on the following modules: GDL Contract Law, GELLB Contract Law, GDL Public Law, LLB Law in Real Life, LLB Debates in the English Legal System, LLB Legal Skills and LLB Foundations of Trusts Law. Dogan is a Senior Fellow at the Higher Education Academy.
Dogan is also a practising solicitor, currently partner (and solicitor-advocate) at a London boutique firm, having previously worked for a US global law firm's London office for over 8 years, with a further 5 years in its Istanbul office. He is admitted in both England & Wales and Turkey, in the former as a solicitor-advocate and (non-practising) barrister, and in the latter as an attorney-at-law (currently non-practising). Dogan was awarded two scholarships by The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn (the Sir Thomas More Bursary and the Hardwicke Entrance Scholarship) in connection with the Bar course (then BPTC).
Dogan's research interests revolve around contract law, international (commercial and investment) law and dispute resolution. His PhD thesis, undertaken at The City Law School and completed in 2021, focused on the awarding of moral damages under international investment law, which thesis was published by Kluwer Law International as part of its International Arbitration Law Library. Dogan has also published several articles concerning international arbitration and public international law matters. Dogan has an upcoming book project with Kluwer Law International on the Evolution of the ICC Rules of Arbitration. Dogan recently published a book on English Contract Law: General Principles (in English and Turkish as separate copies).
Prior to commencing his PhD research, Dogan completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Westminster in 2009 (LLB, First Class), his master's degree at University College London in 2010 (LLM), the Bar Professional Training Course at BPP London in 2011, and the Graduate Diploma in Turkish Law at Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir, Turkey in 2012.
