Overview

Emeritus Professor Dermot Bowler graduated in Natural Sciences from Trinity College Dublin in 1976 and gained an MSc in Child Development from the University of London, Institute of Education in 1977 after which he worked for six years as a Research Officer at the Thomas Coram Research Unit. This was followed by a two-year ESRC doctoral studenship at the Institute of Education where in 1986 he gained his PhD in Psychology from the University of London.  His post-doctroral work on autism and Asperger's syndrome was carried out at the Medical Research Council Social Psychiatry Unit in collaboration with Dr Lorna Wing.  In 1990,  he joined City University London as a lecturer in Psychology.

He has also held honorary positions at the Universite de Montreal and is currently an adjunct professor at McGill University, Montreal.

Research

Professor Bowler's research interests focus on memory in people from the high functioning end of the autism spectrum, and have been generously supported by the Medical Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council, the Wellcome Trust, the Nuffield foundation and Autism Speaks.
