About

Overview

I have studied psychology (BSc, Panteion University Athens, 2001-2005) and health psychology (MSc, Southampton University, 2006-2007) before completing my PhD (2012) in health psychology and professional practice at the Centre for Clinical Application of Health Psychology, University of Southampton. In 2014, I joined City University of London and am currently a Reader in Health Psychology in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience.

My research is highly interdisciplinary and uses a wide range of methods to understand mental health in neurological conditions and design and test digital psychological interventions to support psychological well-being.

I am currently leading an interdisciplinary project on the development of a digital mental health support toolkit for adolescents with a long-term condition (funded by eNurture) and the development and testing of a smartphone app to support the mental health of people with Parkinson's (funded by Parkinson's UK).

I am a Registered Health Psychologist, Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC, PYL29522), a Chartered Psychologist, British Psychological Society (BPS, 221 776) and a registered Applied Psychology Practice Supervisor (BPS). I'm a trained mindfulness practitioner (Bangor University).

Employment

  • Reader in Health Psychology, City University London, United Kingdom, August 2023 - present
  • Senior lecturer in Health Psychology, City University of London, United Kingdom, August 2017 - August 2022
  • Lecturer in Health Psychology, City, University of London, United Kingdom, October 2014 - August 2017

Research

Research interests

My research focuses on how individuals and families adjust when affected by a long-term health condition, especially multiple sclerosis (MS). I am also involved in developing and evaluating mindfulness interventions to improve adjustment in people with long-term conditions.

Research methods I have used include: qualitative methods (thematic analysis/ grounded theory); cognitive interviewing; questionnaire development and psychometric validation; longitudinal quantitative methods (multilevel modeling); single case experimental design; systematic review; randomised control trial; neuro-imaging.
