Digital Campus

Our Tooting campus has been redesigned to support flexible, digitally-enhanced learning, featuring upgraded facilities and modernised spaces that reflect the changing needs of higher education.

Desktop Power Units

We have installed desktop charging across the Library and computer rooms to allow use of laptops, as well as charging of devices at study desks.

Lapsafe Charging Lockers

Lapsafe charging lockers allow more students to charge their devices onsite. Lapsafe's innovative charging units allows you to securely store your laptop, tablet or phone while charging.

WiFi Improvements

Problems with WiFi access have become more pronounced (expressed via many UNITU posts and comments from the National Student Survey and Student Experience Survey) over recent years as more users carry multiple devices which automatically access the network via Eduroam. The university-wide WiFi improvement project is well underway and the work on Level 1, Hunter including the Library and computer rooms has been completed. The service went live on 8 January 2024.

Study Pods for Individual and Group Study

There continues to be a post-Covid demand for onsite access to online learning. Individual pods provide a bookable, private space for interacting with online learning, without disturbing others.

Constant demand for group spaces within the library is eased by these 4 individual study pods and 2 group study pods, which are in addition to the 4 group discussion rooms which were already available.

Digital Pods

A number of digital pods have been installed at St George's (Hunter Wing, Level 6) to provide quiet, sound isolating spaces for staff to create good quality video and audio content.

These facilities are intended for staff use but a larger pod is also available for use by students with accessibility needs.

There are 2 kinds of digital pods available: a number of 4-seater pods and a single larger pod which may be more suitable for users with accessibility needs.

All pods are equipped with the following:

• microphones, cameras and ring lights to facilitate creating audio-visual content
• adjustable lighting and air-conditioning
• a computer (on which all work and applications can be accessed) with an adjustable monitor, wired keyboard and mouse
• desks and seating.
