Our Medicine MBBS (5 year) and Medicine Medicine MBBS (4 year graduate entry) programmes are supported by both Student Finance England (SFE) and NHS Student Bursaries. This means that medical students may not have to pay tuition fees for some year(s) of study at City St George’s. The funding available depends on personal eligibility and the course studied. All students are advised to check their eligibility with NHS Student Bursaries.
The tables in the following sections summarise the financial support currently available to eligible Medicine MBBS 4-year and 5-year students in each year of study. All amounts relate to students who ordinarily live in England. Amounts may be subject to change so please also check each organisations' website when making an application.
If you normally live in Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales, please visit your local student finance website for information about any government support you may be eligible for.
All students need to reapply for their funding every academic year.

Support for non-NHS funded years of study
MBBS students can apply to Student Finance England (SFE) for a full tuition fee loan for each non-NHS funded year of study (years 1 to 4). Please note that previous study at Higher Education level may affect entitlement. Graduates on the MBBS5 programme will not be eligible for the SFE tuition fee loan and will need to self-fund the tuition fees for the first four years of the course.
MBBS 4-year graduate entry students are required to self-fund the first £3,665 of the first year’s tuition fee. A tuition fee loan of £6,125 is available from Student Finance England for the remainder. These amounts may be subject to change so please also check with the relevant organisation when making an application.
All eligible MBBS students in a non-NHS funded year of study can apply to Student Finance England for an income assessed maintenance loan. Grants for dependants and Disabled Students’ Allowance are also available to eligible students.
Additional information
Under the student finance system students can apply for loans to support their tuition fee and living costs. The income assessed maintenance loan is calculated using the course term dates, so offers additional support to students on courses that have a longer than average academic year.
Students can also apply for income assessed grants for dependants, for example Childcare Grant, Adult Dependants Grant and Parents’ Learning Allowance, if applicable. Non-income assessed Disabled Students’ Allowance is also available.
