Spanish Lower Intermediate (part 3)

Part 3 will cover topics useful for travel, from interpreting directions and transport information, to asking for assistance. You’ll also learn how to describe people, places and objects, as well as talk about experiences and activities in the past.

Our classes are taught by trained native speakers and delivered in small groups so there will be plenty of time for pair work and one-to-one tuition.

On completion you will be working towards CEFR A1/A2 level of the Common European Framework Reference of language learning.

Who is it for?

You should have at least 100 hours of prior learning and be able to communicate at low CEFR A1 level. You may have a rusty or low grade GCSE or completed the part 2 of the course. See the eligibility section.

Timetable

This course takes place one evening a week at 18:30 for 10 weeks.

By the end of this course you will be able to

• ask and give directions
• ask for permission and favours
• give information about transport
• invite people to do things, accept and refuse
• identify and describe objects
• give opinions about experiences and activities in the past
• describe people, places and things in the past
• talk about habits in the past.

Grammatical structures

• irregular verbs in the past tense
• verb gustar in the past
• imperative
• pretérito imperfecto.

There is no formal assessment and you won’t receive a qualification, but you will be awarded an official City St George’s, University of London certificate if you attend over 70 per cent of the classes.

Teaching

Teaching method include role plays, group work and list making.

Multimedia content will give you a wider insight into the politics, economics and cultures of Spain and Latin America.

You can also access Moodle, our digital learning platform, where you will find teaching material and supplementary content.

It is the right level if one of the following applies:

• you can communicate at low CEFR A1 level
• you have completed part 2 of the lower intermediate course, or equivalent elsewhere (at last 100 hours of prior study)
• you have a rusty or low GCSE.

You should already be able to:

• talk about a trip you have taken
• describe things you have done
• talk about life moments
• use pretérito perfecto and pretérito indefinido.
