Who is it for?
This interprofessional module supports healthcare professionals in applying leadership theories and models to enhance team performance and deliver safe, effective care. It develops practical leadership strategies while strengthening transferable skills, including critical thinking, professional reasoning, reflection, and the ability to engage in informed debate across healthcare settings.

What will I learn?
By the end of the module, you will be able to
- Critically appraise historical and contemporary leadership theories and models and evaluate their influence on organisational culture and team functioning
- Critically analyse group formation, structure and behaviours, and assess how group dynamics can support professional engagement and effective teamwork
- Demonstrate critical understanding of communication principles and organisational processes, behaviours and cultures within health and social care settings
Assessment and certificates
Learning in this module is a combination of lectures, workshops, guided independent study, and self-directed learning.
Summative assessment consists of two components. The first is an online discussion forum.
The second component is an individual 15-minute PowerPoint presentation followed by questions from a panel.

This course is worth 15 credits toward eligible programmes.
Eligibility
- a current professional registration with a relevant professional/statutory body or equivalent
- at least one year’s relevant clinical experience as a health or social care practitioner
- a satisfactory academic reference and a satisfactory clinical reference
- first degree (minimum 2:2 or above) or higher level 7/MSc qualification.
English requirements
For those students whose first language is not English the following qualification is also required:
- IELTS: 7.0
