Japanese Advanced - Level 6 Course overview
Taught almost exclusively in Japanese, this course is ideal of experienced Japanese speakers looking to improve or maintain their high-level language skills. Taught at N1 level, this cause is designed to help you achieve level of fluency comparable to that required for entry into Japanese universities.
Through engaging discussions, authentic materials, and advanced communication practice, you will develop the skills needed to express complex ideas accurately and naturally in both professional and social contexts.
The course consists of three 10-week modules running over a total of 30 weeks. It is excellent for using Japanese to a high standard in academic, professional or cultural settings.
Who is it for?
This course is ideal for learners who have completed Japanese Upper Intermediate (level 5) or similar experience. You should be confident at JLPT N2 level before enrolling. It is also suitable for learners who have already reached JLPT N1 and would like to maintain their proficiency, refresh their knowledge and continue developing their advanced language skills.

Assessment and certificates
You will receive a Certificate of Completion from City St George’s, University of London, along with a digital badge for your LinkedIn profile.
To qualify, you must attend at least 70% of classes.

Eligibility
It is the right level if you have either:
- completed our Level 5 upper intermediate course or equivalent
- a good JLPT N2 level.
You should already be able to:
- talk about your hobbies and interests
- express personal feelings and emotions with reasons
- be able to organise meetings with friends and colleagues
- join conversations discussing familiar everyday topics
- generally understand TV shows or movies in standard Japanese
- understand the content of official letters and e-mails written in polite Japanese
- understand the content of general articles in newspapers and magazine
- use around 1,000 kanji.
Additional requirements
To enrol onto the Advanced Japanese course, you must:
- be age 18 or over
- have basic IT skills and a reliable internet connection to access lessons and course materials.
English requirements
You will need a good level of spoken and written English to enrol on this course, although, at this level the classes will mainly be taught in Japanese.
