Italian Intermediate (part 3)

In Part 3, you’ll focus on the future tense, so you discuss your holiday plans and upcoming events. You’ll also learn to express desires and give advice. Time will be set aside to revise the conditional tense, which you’ll practice using through groupwork, games and role-play.

You’ll gain further insight into contemporary Italian culture and current affairs, through watching film and TV clips, listening to popular music and reading newspaper articles.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the confidence and skills needed to hold detailed conversations, helping you to make friends on your travels, or bond with new relatives and neighbours.

Who is it for?

To join here, you should have approximately 160 hours of prior learning, and be able to communicate at CEFR A2 level of Italian. You could have taken part 2 of our intermediate syllabus, and we also accept a good or recent GCSE. Check the eligibility section for further information.

Timetable

This course takes place one evening a week at 18:30 for 10 weeks.

By the end of this course, you will be able to

Grammatical structures

• consolidation of the conditional tense
• learn and practice the use of the future tense.

You will be awarded an official City St George's, University of London certificate on completion of the course if you attend over 70 per cent of the classes. The course is not formally accredited.

Assessment

You will need to do some independent learning in your own time which may be informally assessed to evaluate your progress.

Teaching

You’ll take part in group role-plays and have class discussions on a range of topics and gain an insight into Italian culture.

We’ll give you access to Moodle, our e-learning platform. This hosts learning material and other content, so you can continue learning outside of the class.

It is the right level if one of the following applies:

• you can communicate at A2 level, according to the Common European Framework Reference of languages
• you have completed our full Italian lower intermediate syllabus, or equivalent course elsewhere
• you have studied formally for 160 hours
• you have a good or recent GCSE.

You should already be able to

• talk about your personal history and recalling an event in the past
• accept and refuse invitations
• express joy or regret
• use direct and indirect object pronouns
• use gerundio.
