French Lower Intermediate - Level 3 Course overview
Can you get by in French but feel frustrated that you can’t engage in deeper conversations? Would you like to express yourself more confidently and naturally?
Learn to express emotions, debate preferences and express opinions in this highly engaging French Lower Intermediate course. Alongside fellow students, you will practice real-life interactions, discover and new topics and debate ideas.
You’ll broaden your understanding of French culture by engaging with authentic materials such as French articles, stories, television and film.
As well as this, you will strengthen your grasp of key grammar, including comparatives and superlatives, the conditional tense, complex interrogatives and an introduction to the pluperfect tense.
By the end of the course, you’ll be starting to communicate at CEFR A2/B1 level of the Common European Framework Reference of language learning.
Who is it for?

- combining the pluperfect “If I had done” and conditional perfect “I would have done”
- the si clause using present, future, imperfect, conditional, pluperfect and past conditional
- brief introduction to subjunctive mood.
Assessment and certificates
You will receive a Certificate of Completion from City St George’s, University of London, along with a digital badge for your LinkedIn profile.
To qualify, you must attend at least 70% of classes.
Teaching

You’ll also explore French culture, current affairs and traditions alongside language learning.
Eligibility
It is the right level if you:
- have completed our French Elementary (Level 2) course, or equivalent course elsewhere
- can communicate at CEFR A1/2, according to the Common European Framework of languages
- have a good French GCSE
- have studied French formally for around 120 hours.
You should already understand:
- pronunciation and intonation
- how to order food, giving instructions and asking for details
- how to talk about events in the past, present and future
- the use adjectives, superlatives and comparatives.
Additional requirements
To enrol onto the Lower Intermediate French course, you must:
- be age 18 or over
- have basic IT skills and a reliable internet connection to access lessons and course materials.
English requirements
You will need a good level of spoken and written English to enrol on this course.
