This course is part of the 2-day Cardiology Event and covers Cardiac Imaging in Cardiomyopathies and Athletes' hearts. It is delivered by experts in cardiac imaging, cardiomyopathies and sports cardiology. It provides participants with the knowledge and skills to recognize different cardiomyopathy phenotypes, recognising findings suggestive of potentially lethal cardiovascular disorders.

Modern, advanced imaging techniques have allowed increasingly more rigorous assessment of individuals with cardiomyopathies. Correct interpretation is key in the differential diagnosis with structural changes that reflect physiological cardiac adaptation to exercise.
The Cardiac Imaging course is highly interactive and comprises three sessions offered over one day. Lectures alternate with case-based learning (small groups teaching).

Cardiology Event
This Cardiac Imaging course is the second day of the two-day Cardiology Event. Day one will focus on ECG Interpretation. You are welcome to attend either one of the days or the entire two-day event.
Who is it for?
The course is aimed at anyone who has an interest in ECG interpretation. Cardiologists, general practitioners, sport physicians, junior doctors, physician assistants, nurses, physiologists.
Timetable
Learners are encouraged to attend the live lectures on 27 June 2025 at the City St George's Tooting campus, but they would be able to access the recordings for up to 4 weeks from the end of the course.
The course is highly interactive through Q&A sessions, small groups teaching and case-based learning.
What will I learn?
After this course, participants will be able to:
- recognize imaging features of cardiomyopathies
- differentiate features of athletic adaptation from those suggestive of cardiomyopathy
- plan a diagnostic work-up for individuals with possible cardiomyopathy.
Assessment and certificates
Teaching
The course is hosted at City St George's Tooting campus and delivered in a hybrid format. The platform Microsoft Teams will be used for attendees who are not able to participate in person. The attendees will be able to interact with the speakers and ask questions, raise comments, and respond to MCQs.
Learners will be asked to complete online assignment (MCQs) between sessions and feedback will be provided. This is for the participants’ own learning and not a fail/pass process.
Certification
Delegates will be issued with a certificate of attendance and 7 CPD points, which have been approved from the Royal College of Physicians. Delegates attending both days of the 2-day Cardiology Event will receive 14 CPD points in total.

The event is hybrid, and students have the option of attending virtually, or face to face at City St George's Tooting campus.
You will have the option to attend either or both of the event days when you complete the online booking form.

Professor Michael Papadakis
Professor of Cardiology
Michael Papadakis is a Professor of Cardiology at City St George’s, University of London and an Honorary Consultant Cardiologist at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
His research interests include sports cardiology, inherited cardiac diseases, cardiovascular disease prevention including prevention of sudden cardiac death in young and athletic individuals, heart failure and cardiac imaging.

Dr Gherardo Finocchiaro
Consultant Cardiologist, Deputy Course Director MSc Sports Cardiology and Honorary Reader in Cardiology
Dr Gherardo Finocchiaro is a consultant cardiologist at St George's Hospital and honorary reader at City St George’s University. Dr Finocchiaro has clinical interests and expertise in preventive cardiology, sports cardiology, and inherited heart conditions. He is part of the nucleus of the European section of Sports Cardiology and Exercise.
He has contributed to international projects that have shaped education in preventive cardiology, and is course director of the MSc degree in Sports Cardiology, which was launched in 2016 at St George’s University of London. To date, he has been credited with more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, and numerous presentations in national and international conferences. Dr Finocchiaro is also consultant to Cardiac Risk in the Young (a charitable organisation that annually screens more than 30,000 young individuals for heart disease).
