Arabic Lower Intermediate - Level 3 Course overview
The Lower Intermediate Arabic course is designed to help you communicate confidently in a range of business, leisure and social scenarios.
Building on your knowledge, you’ll cover vocabulary needed to rent an apartment, talk in detail about family relationships and navigate your way around.
You’ll also learn the correct forms of address and how to give and receive instruction. New grammar topics are introduced, such as permutative nouns.
You will gain a deeper insight into the cultures of Arab countries, including Arabic music and food, using newspapers, TV programmes, radio clips and advertisements for context.
You’ll be working towards CEFR B1 of the Common European Framework Reference for language learning.
Who is it for?
You should already be able to communicate at CEFR A2 level (at least 120 hours of formal study). You may have a good or recent GCSE or have completed the elementary course.

What will I learn?
By the end of this course you will be able to
- Talk in more detail about everyday life, work, study, travel and personal experiences
- Take part in longer conversations and express opinions, preferences and reasons
- Understand the main points of everyday conversations and short authentic recordings
- Read and discuss short texts on familiar social and cultural topics
- Write connected paragraphs, messages and short descriptions using a wider range of vocabulary
Grammar structures
- Past, present and future tense forms
- Comparatives, adjectives and agreement
- Relative clauses and linking sentences
- Object and possessive pronouns and more complex noun phrases
- Negation, modal expressions and more complex sentence structures
Assessment and certificates
You will receive a Certificate of Completion from City St George’s, University of London, along with a digital badge for your LinkedIn profile.
To qualify, you must attend at least70% of classes.
Teaching
Classes are highly interactive and include:
- Small group work and role-play
- Listening to audio materials (e.g. radio clips)
- Reading articles and texts
- Watching video content
- Digital learning tools to support your progress
You’ll also explore Arabic culture, current affairs and traditions alongside language learning.
Eligibility
It is the right level if one of the following applies:
- you have completed our elementary course, or equivalent course elsewhere
- you can communicate at CEFR A2 level
- you have at least 120 hours of formal study
- you have a good or recent GCSE.
You should already be able to:
- talk in more detail about family members and relationships
- describe geographical directions and signs
- describe professions and travel-related activities
- express uncertainty, possibility and frequency
- have some understanding of using comparative nouns.

To enrol onto the Lower Intermediate Arabic course, you must:
- be age 18 or over
