The INTERSECT Study examines childbirth-related PTSD in an international context by collaborating with researchers across the world. This event is the first ever INTERSECT conference, bringing together international researchers to present their work on childbirth-related PTSD and other perinatal mental health conditions.
The first International INTERSECT Conference is taking place online on the 21 July 2026.
The event will be hosted by the INTERSECT core team:
- Professor Susan Ayers (City St George's, University of London)

This exciting event will showcase findings from the INTERSECT study, a worldwide collaboration of researchers investigating childbirth-related post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The conference offers a fantastic programme including international research presentations about childbirth-related PTSD prevalence, symptom patterns, risk factors, and the impact of economic and gender inequalities on childbirth-related PTSD across 31 countries.
There will also be presentations on INTERSECT subgroups which explore fear of:

- mother–baby bonding
- maternal mistreatment
- models of maternity care.
The afternoon sessions invites speakers from Malawi, Nigeria, Cyprus, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Croatia and Spain discuss country-specific findings related to childbirth-related PTSD, birth satisfaction and postpartum depression.
