Anthony Finkelstein joined City St George's from his position as the Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser for National Security, which he had held since 2015. During that time, Anthony’s research was based at The Alan Turing Institute and he held a Chair in Software Systems Engineering at University College London (UCL). Prior to this, he was Dean of the UCL Faculty of Engineering Sciences and Head of UCL Computer Science. His scientific work is in the broad area of systems engineering.
He has a strong commitment to science-based entrepreneurship and innovation, developing two successful 'spinouts'. One of these, Systemwire / Message Automation, was based on his research (and associated patent), on consistency checking of distributed data. The other, Satalia, on advances in the field of optimisation, scheduling and routing (computationally hard problems). Both have exited and each has had substantial economic impact. Anthony serves on numerous advisory boards , most significantly Gallos, undertaking investment and co-development in security and defence technologies.
Anthony currently advises Polecat, Sepia Labs and Conscium. He is on the Board of BusinessLDN. He was on the founding board of UCL Consulting and UCL Enterprise. He set up both the IQT-I and the National Security Strategic Investment Fund, the first UK Government strategic investment vehicles, using venture capital to drive innovation into government.
