The Acute and Critical Care Research Group are delighted to be hosting Professor Heather Jarman, who will be talking on research in emergency care.
Abstract
There are over 25 million attendances to UK Emergency Departments (EDs) each year, covering a wide range of conditions from minor injuries and infections to life-threatening emergencies like sepsis, stroke, and major trauma.
Demand is continually rising due to an aging population and chronic disease burden, leading to challenges in ED capacity and crowding.
This setting means that clinical research can be hindered by logistical constraints, ethical considerations, and the need to balance research with immediate patient care.
Collaboration between clinicians and researchers is essential for producing research that is both practical and impactful. This seminar will:
- Provide an understanding of the emergency care research environment
- Explore the challenges and opportunities for conducting research in emergency settings
- Outline priority topics in emergency care research
- Present an overview of the work of the St George’s Emergency Department Collaborative Research Group.
