A university-based certification in neuromodulation, delivered by world renowned key opinion leaders.
Executive Education Program in Neuromodulation (EEPIN) is the first course of its kind, designed to be an initial step in neuromodulation education for doctors new to the field, nurses, industry reps and allied healthcare professionals. The aim is to provide an online course that imparts an essential foundation of knowledge and understanding of emerging technology in neuromodulation and pain management.
Objective and ethos
EEPIN aims to be the first choice in neuromodulation foundation education. The certification ethos underpins providing standardised, unbiased education under strict university governance to protect and promote the safe practices in the speciality.
Structure
The online program is delivered over 2 days via interactive online lectures, concluded with a MCQ assessment. Upon successful completion of the MCQ assessment candidates will receive a City University EEPIN Certification.
Next program dates:
- EEPIN (Online): 10th and 11th June
- Asynchronous MCQ examination: 11th June.
The last date for applications and the bursary will be 17th May, 2024. All successful candidates will be notified by 24th May, 2024
Learning objectives
The programme aims to cover the following key topics on the fundamentals of neuromodulation with the potential to incorporate further novel advancements in the field:
- Anatomical and neurophysiological targets related to SCS
- Indications of neuromodulation (Axial pain, CRPS, Refractory Angina, Migraine Cluster headache)
- Patient selection and Multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach
- Procedural skills and video demonstrations for SCS
- Software developments and programming of devices
- Complications and intra and postoperative troubleshooting
- Surgical Safety with SCS
- Peripheral Nerve Stimulation
- Radiofrequency
- Functional neurosurgery: Deep Brain Stimulation (role and indications)
- Intra thecal drug delivery: advanced “Non cancer and Cancer” pain management
- Evidence based practice: Critical analysis of publications.
Who is this program for?
This programme is aimed at doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, neurophysicists and allied health professionals who would like to be part of a neuromodulation team and seek a formal education career in neuromodulation.
Recommended eligibility:
- Doctors: Experience in pain, neurosurgery or neuromodulation.
- Nurses, physiotherapist, allied healthcare professionals and field clinical engineers in neuromodulation: Undergraduate degree and statement of purpose with ability to demonstrate interest in neuromodulation.

After completion of EEPIN, you will join EEPIN alumni fraternity and have access to the events online, and virtual programmes to claim 'Associate Alumni' status. There is a peer mentorship program that allows one to network and have access to EEPIN alumni (>140).

Prof Vivek Mehta - Co-Director for Education Program in Neuromodulation (EEPIN)
Prof Vivek Mehta is a Consultant in Pain and Neuromodulation at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Honorary Reader at Queen Mary University, London.
He is the Director of Pain Research Centre at St Bartholomew’s Hospital London, Clinical Network Director for Pain at Barts Health NHS Trust and recipient of National Bronze Award 2021.
He is Co-Director for Education Program in Neuromodulation (EEPIN), with international faculty collaboration from Europe, India, Australia and US and the Co- Program Director for the first Post Graduate Certificate Course (PGCC) in neuromodulation with QMUL affiliation.
Dr Kavita Poply - FRCA, FFPMRCA, PhD
Dr Kavita Poply is a Consultant in Pain and Neuromodulation at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University London (QMUL).
She was awarded PhD for her novel work on the “Effect of differential frequencies of spinal cord stimulator on pain matrix areas through PET neuroimaging”.
She is running various research projects including NIHR trial and has been serving as Deputy director at Pain Research Centre (PaRC), St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.
She is Co-director for first ever foundation “Education Program in Neuromodulation (EEPIN)” with the City University, London, and the Program director for advance “Post Graduate Certificate (PGcert) Course in Neuromodulation and pain management” with QMUL affiliation.
She is successfully running these programs with the international faculty collaboration from Europe, India, Australia, and US.
