Alumna Ozzy David-Uwangue Publishes Career Handbook Inspired by Real-World Experience
Alumna Ozzy David-Uwangue has recently published an employability handbook to assist people with their career development. Ozzy studied Occupational Therapy at City St Georges, graduating in July.
“The inspiration for the employability handbook came from real life conversations that I have had with students and professionals whom I work with in my role as a Careers Counsellor as well as my experience as a HR professional. I want to use the handbook as a means to guide jobseekers on how to search for, find, and remain in employment. I am delighted to have had positive feedback from those who are currently using it.
Ozzy says: "Publishing the book was challenging. I have previous publishing experience, and it always involves a lot of going back and forth with the publisher. It took months from the approval of the first draft to the final draft being published."
Reflecting on how her studies helped prepare her for the world of work Ozzy adds, “Occupational therapy is a great profession, particularly for those with a genuine passion to support people to live independently. It was initially challenging studying Occupational Therapy at City St George's as it had been 10 years since I completed my Masters. However, I settled in, persevered, and completed my degree.
“I enjoyed my time at City St George's and was pleased to be able to support my peers as a Student Rep in years one and two, and also as an Equity Champion under David Ross (Lecturer in Inclusive Education)."
"The School of Health and Medical Sciences has a great teaching framework, supported by a variety of placements that prepares graduates to become well-rounded healthcare professionals."
The library is one of a kind and I also like that the community is multi-cultural, and students are supported to have equal opportunity no matter their abilities. I love being an Occupational Therapist and now know that I made the right choice studying at City St Georges.”
Ozzy’s handbook is available for students, staff and alumni to read in the Library at Tooting.
