My name is Andrew Caro Quispe and I am from Spain. I am currently in the second term of my MSc in Robotics, AI and Autonomous Systems.
What scholarship did you receive?
I received the City Star Scholarship from City St George's to encourage my studies by the School of Science & Technology.
What undergraduate course did you study?
I was studying MEng Mechanical Engineering, achieving a first-class overall grade and I graduated in 2022.
I have decided to pursue postgraduate study to expand my background in specific areas that will be useful in my professional career.
What has been your favourite module and what have you enjoyed most about your time at City St George's?
Heat transfer was my favourite module in my MEng course, where we can understand the generation, conversion, and exchange of thermal energy between physical systems.
My favourite thing about City St George's was the group projects that I worked on along with the degree. They prepared us for a real work environment working with people from all over the world as the final project of the degree where we had to design the Formula Student car for the university.
What are your interests outside of your course?
I am currently involved in the representative student programme. I am also an assembly member of the City St George's Students´ Union Assembly because I am encouraging to improve the experience of all university students.
What do you plan to do after you graduate?
After graduating with my MSc, I would like to be involved in the Automotive industry, which is an industry that is experiencing continuous changes these years in terms of vehicle propulsion and autonomous vehicles.
What would be your top tip for our applicants?
Once you have decided to study an MSc, you must be clear on what professional path you want to follow and, at the same time, have a perspective idea of how the industry will change in the future to anticipate the changes and study the topics that you think that you will be helpful for your future career.
What is your proudest academic achievement?
My proudest academic achievement was coming first in a competition organized by the robotic society, where I had to programme a robot to follow a path in a specific time.
How do you see your subject of study changing in the future?
In my opinion, the Mechanical Engineering field will be turning more to the application of AI and machine learning which will help at the time of optimization of a wide range of devices, either compressors or the application of composite materials.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I wanted to thank to all the professors that I had during my MEng and MSc degrees for believing in me.
This is just the beginning, and I am sure that I will be able to take part in the future developments in the engineering field.
