Shujana Keraudren

Overview

Shujana is an academic midwife with an interest in incorporating salutogenic theories within maternal and child health research.

She has been part of City since 2013 when she undertook her midwifery training and returned for postgraduate research qualification. During her MRes in Clinical Research she joined the Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research based within the school and worked as a research assistant on the worksteam on the Midwifery Unit Network. She continued to collaborate with the SHPS as a Visiting Scholar and later joined as a Visiting Lecturer to support in the creation and development of the MSc in Global Maternal Health.

Shujana currently works as part of the Midwifery Lecturers team at the School of Health and Psychological Sciences with the aim of supporting midwifery students to find their own journey into this rewarding and challenging profession. She currently leads on the Baby Friendly Initiatives for the Midwifery Department.

Her recent works involve working on the development of the MUSA Framework, mapping midwifery-units within Europe and leading the French translation of the Midwifery Units Standards.

After journeying from a childhood torn by war in southern hemisphere to a motherhood of mindfulness in northern hemisphere, she believes that the only thing that is constant in life is change. Her doctoral research work focuses on understanding how to reach an appropriate use of caesarean section whilst promoting safety for women and newborn. Above everything, she is a mother to two little humans. And is a fervent advocate for the power of narratives around birth and has been gathering stories while walking this path with women and people.
