Overview
Mustafa Kutlay is a senior lecturer in the Department of International Politics at City, University of London. His current research focuses on the comparative politics and political economy of developing countries, Turkish politics and foreign policy, institutions and development in the global South, and political risk analysis. His articles appeared in International Affairs, Journal of Democracy, Globalizations, Government & Opposition, Third World Quarterly, and The British Journal of Politics and International Relations, among others. His most recent book, 'Industrial Policy in Turkey: Rise, Retreat and Return' is published by Edinburgh University Press (co-authored with M. Toksoz and W. Hale).
He is also a senior scholar at the Istanbul Policy Center (IPC). Before joining City, he was an assistant professor in Politics and International Relations at TOBB University of Economics and Technology. He was also a research fellow at Royal Holloway University of London (2013-2014) and Marshall Memorial Fellow at The German Marshall Fund of the US in spring 2013.
Dr Kutlay has participated in research projects (funded by international institutions, such as GCRF and BIAA) and organised workshops. He occasionally writes policy reports and briefs for policy-making institutions. His works were published by The German Marshall Fund of the US, The Istituto Affari Internazionali, Istanbul Policy Center, and Institut du Bosphore, among others. He also contributes commentaries and short opinion pieces to international media outlets.
