Overview

Charles Lees is Executive Dean and Professor of Policy and Global Affairs in the School of Policy and Global Affairs, City St George's, University of London, UK. Previously, he was Dean (People and Resources) and Professor of Government in the College of Business, Government and Law at Flinders University, Australia (2017-2022), and Head of Department and Professor of Politics in the Department of Politics, Languages, and International Studies at the University of Bath, UK (2011-2017).

Charles Lees has research expertise in comparative politics and policy, including party systems, coalition government, environmental politics and policy, and has contributed to debates on the methodology of single-country studies. He has provided research and advice for the Centre for American Progress, Australian Labor Party, the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand, the UK House of Lords, and the Scottish Executive, amongst others. He is a Visiting Professorial Fellow at the University of Sussex, and Associate Fellow in the Institute for German and European Studies at the University of Birmingham. He has also held visiting fellowships at the University of California San Diego, the Australian National University, the University of Sydney, the University of Bath, and Cardiff University.

Charles Lees has a strong record of program and unit design, teaching innovation and delivery, and PhD supervision, across political science, area studies, and other inter-disciplinary settings. He remains very active in PhD supervision, as well as widening opportunity activities and improving the student experience.
