Joint and Soft Tissue Injection Course overview
For allied health professionals who wish to start using injection therapy, this medicine course will serve as an introduction to the skills they will need, and will give them the insight to decide whether they wish to enrol on the credit bearing module.
For advanced clinical practitioners and doctors who are already trained, this course is an essential part of them demonstrating ongoing competence in this area, required by their professional bodies.

What will I learn?
On successful completion of the module, participants will be able to:
- briefly outline the general musculoskeletal anatomy
- demonstrate soft tissue assessment and be able to evaluate the need for intervention with injection therapy
- understand and discuss the indications and contraindications for injections
- identify safety techniques involved in injection administration including correct equipment and complications that may occur
- demonstrate safe and accurate injections in joints and soft tissues, using anatomical simulation models.

Eligibility
Participants should have suitable background knowledge to successfully complete this course. It is best suited to GPs, doctors, physiotherapists, nurses, paramedics and other allied health professionals.
Learners should possess:
- current Registration with the relevant UK or equivalent professional body: HCPC or equivalent registration e.g., in case of doctors (GMC) and Nurses (NMC)
- current professional practice within an environment where musculoskeletal injection could be used.
In addition, learners will undertake DOPS assessment to comply with CSP guidance and NHS-England accreditation to undertake joint injections.
English requirements
Candidates must meet St George’s requirements for English language proficiency.
