About
Overview
Menna Elhosary is an Egyptian award-winning communication scholar with over six years of teaching and research experience. She is currently a PhD candidate at City St George's, University of London, researching the weaponization of visual generative AI and its intersection with war propaganda and information disorder. Her doctoral studies are fully funded by the School of Communication and Creativity.
Menna holds a Master’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the American University in Cairo and a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Cairo University. She earned both degrees with the highest honors. Her academic career further involved participation in exchange programs and research mobilities at the University of Murcia and Philips University in Marburg.
Menna is devoted to studying communication in the Middle East. She aims to balance the extensive scholarly work dedicated to the West. Her research interests revolve around visual communication, visual generative AI and visual propaganda, war and media, and information disorder.
Exceptionally for an early-career scholar, Menna is the recipient of eleven international research and teaching awards from ICA, AEJMC, Kappa Tau Alpha, and the University of Sharjah, and her research has appeared in seven Q1 journal publications and thirteen top-tier conference presentations. She is also an active member of the International Communication Association (ICA) and the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC), where she regularly presents her work, chairs sessions, and reviews research studies.
In her teaching role, Menna has experience with several media-related courses such as Media Literacy, Social Media Journalism, Research Methods, Visual Communication, Graphic Design Fundamentals, and more. She is adept at preparing syllabi and rubrics and possesses skills in statistics, graphic design, photography, video editing, and motion graphics.
Beyond academia, Menna is passionate about writing and blogging. She has contributed to prominent media organizations such as HuffPost, Arabic Post, AL-Dostor (a prominent Egyptian newspaper), and Molhem, and her articles have been featured in several books and websites.
Menna is driven by a duty to make a lasting impact on her students’ minds and souls. Thus, she constantly works toward her personal development to keep up with our ever-evolving world.
