Overview
Dan-Adrian Corfar is a Lecturer in Engineering in the Department of Engineering, School of Science & Technology at City St George’s, University of London. He earned a BSc in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, followed by an MSc in Structural Engineering with Distinction from the University of Leeds, where he was awarded the Institution of Structural Engineers’ “Andrew Beeby” Prize. He completed his PhD at City St George’s, University of London, focusing on the development of hybrid inter-module connections for steel modular building systems.
His research interests span modular construction, steel and composite structures, and earthquake engineering, combining finite element analysis with large-scale structural testing to advance the design of sustainable and earthquake-resilient structures.
He continues to expand his research portfolio through collaborations with industry and academic partners. Recent work focuses on the circularity of modular buildings for the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, as well as the structural behaviour of cellular beams, with findings that are contributing to the development of the next generation of Eurocode 3 Part 1-13 design provisions. He also recently led an ICURe (Innovate UK) project as Principal Investigator, exploring the commercialisation of the HyMC™ connection technology.
Dr Corfar is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and has teaching experience across undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He supervises individual and dissertation projects, provides personal tutoring, and contributes to teaching in civil and structural engineering, with particular focus on construction materials, structural mechanics, and steel and composite design.
