PowerShell Basics Course overview
This course teaches the basics of the PowerShell scripting language. It is a great introduction to a key Microsoft technology that has grown in use over the last few years. PowerShell can be installed on Windows, macOS and Linux. It can be used for working with and automating Exchange Server, SQL Server, SharePoint, Windows Server, Hyper-V, Office 365, Azure and so on, as well as administrating servers and desktops.
All of the PowerShell basics are covered and an overview of the key concepts of the pipeline is given, as well as an introduction to the help system and cmdlets.
Windows PowerShell is a powerful scripting language that is used in the industry to:
- automate repetitive tasks
- schedule complex processes
- perform configuration management.
Who is it for?
This practical short course is an ideal introduction to gain knowledge and experience in learning PowerShell. For beginners it is an ideal starting point if you are looking for a career as DevOps, Systems Engineer or Cloud Engineer. No previous programming or scripting experience is required.

Assessment and certificates
You will be awarded an official City St George’s, University of London certificate if you attend over 70 per cent of the classes. The course is not formally accredited.
Assessment
Hands-on training is provided in practical teaching sessions. Realistic examples are used throughout.
Informal assessment will take place through group discussion, classroom activities, and questions and answers sessions as guided by your tutor.
Eligibility
Working knowledge of the Windows operating system.
English requirements
