German Upper Intermediate (part 2)

In part 2 you’ll examine leisure time activities, events, parties and traditional festivals. You’ll discuss the work-life balance and the pros and cons of certain jobs. Grammar will include the passive voice, the subjunctive and indirect speech.

Our small class sizes provide plenty of opportunity for lively discussions to practice your skills with others and build your confidence.

If you enjoy the course, you can enrol on part 3 in the summer term to continue to work towards CEFR B1 level.

Who is it for?

To enrol at this level, you should communicate at CEFR A2/B1. You may have completed part 1 of the upper intermediate syllabus, have good GCSE, a rusty A-level, or studied for 140 hours at another provider. You’ll find more in the eligibility section.

Timetable

This course takes place one evening a week at 18:30 for 10 weeks.

By the end of this course you will be able to

There is no formal assessment and you won’t receive a qualification, but you will be awarded an official City St George's, University of London certificate on completion of the course. You must attend over 70 per cent of the classes to be eligible for the certificate.

Your tutor will give you regular feedback on your participation in class and on assignments you’ll complete outside of the lesson.

Teaching

Teaching on this course is designed to develop the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and uses a variety of methods. These include tutor-led activities, group and pair work; and interactive role play. Classroom discussions and debates are also important at this level. You will have access to our digital learning platform, Moodle, which hosts relevant course content and other learning material.

Part 2 is aimed at those who have approximately 140 hours of prior formal study.

It is the right level if one of the following applies:

• you can communicate at high CEFR A2 level or low CEFR B1, according to the Common European Framework Reference of languages
• you have completed part 1 of the upper intermediate syllabus, or equivalent elsewhere (140 hours of learning)
• you have a good or recent German GCSE or a rusty A-level.

You should be able to:

• talk about activities in the workplace
• use adverbs of time and frequency (nie, immer, …)
• use the perfect tense, as well as modal verbs in the present and past.

English requirements

You will need a good level of spoken and written English to enrol on this course.
